How to buy a Machu Picchu ticket on TuBoleto: the official step-by-step

The Llaqta of Machu Picchu admission ticket must be purchased through the Ministry of Culture’s official portal:

The machupicchu.gob.pe website also points to this route. The portal is the reference for availability, date, time, circuit, route and current rules. The rules changed with RM 000334-2026-MC (11 Sep 2026): TuBoleto had about 10 days to adapt, followed by a 30-day trial period (Andina, checked Sep 2026). If an old guide differs from the purchase screen, TuBoleto prevails.
Step 1: enter the correct portal
Go directly to the TuBoleto address. Do not buy from street sellers, unknown intermediaries or unofficial websites. Reference as of Sep 2026: a foreign adult pays S/152 on standard routes, plus the S/11 SERNANP fee since 1 May 2026 (El Comercio); mountain routes cost more. Confirm the final price on the portal.
Create your account as instructed on the page. Save the login used for the purchase so you can consult the order and voucher.
Step 2: choose the date, time and circuit
When buying, select:
- the visit date;
- the available time;
- the circuit or route;
- additional options, if they appear for the chosen date.
Entry is not a generic pass: the visit is made by pre-scheduled circuit and time. The details entered must match the original ID shown on the day: passport, carné de extranjería or, for CAN and MERCOSUR citizens, the national ID card — the RG works for Brazilians (RM 000334-2026-MC).
In 2026, the consolidated material records three main circuits, with sub-routes that appear on the ticket:
- Circuit 1 — Panoramic;
- Circuit 2 — Classic / Citadel;
- Circuit 3 — Royalty.
Descriptions and options may be updated. Some circuits do not include the classic photo viewpoint; Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu Mountain and other climbs have their own options and limits, and several routes open only in high season (RM 000334-2026-MC). Read what your chosen route includes before confirming.
Step 3: check the document details
The visitor’s name and details must match the passport or document used for the purchase and presented on the day. Review them before proceeding, especially:
- name spelling;
- document number;
- nationality;
- chosen date;
- time;
- circuit and sub-route.
Do not count on an informal correction at the entrance. Under RM 000334-2026-MC, tickets allow no date or name changes (only a one-time passport-number correction) and are non-refundable except for force majeure.
Step 4: pay online and save the voucher
After choosing the correct option and reviewing the details, pay online through the TuBoleto flow. Save the voucher and bring the matching document. Arrive respecting the indicated time and the circuit’s circulation rules; inside the site, movement is one-way.
The citadel ticket is only one part of the journey. The train, bus and any guide are separate items:
- train: PeruRail or Inca Rail to Machu Picchu Pueblo;
- bus: Consettur from the pueblo to the entrance;
- guide: recommended, not mandatory since RM 000334-2026-MC (Andina, checked Sep 2026).
Consettur has its own website: https://www.consettur.com. Do not confuse buying the ticket on TuBoleto with buying the train or bus.
What if online sales are sold out?
There are in-person sales in Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes): up to 1,000 tickets per day, valid for the next day, with ID (machupicchu.gob.pe, checked Sep 2026). In the 2026 high season, sales were made up to 3 days ahead (Andina).
This is not a guaranteed reservation. Availability may run out, and the numbers, times and rules may change. Consult MINCUL’s availability tool and confirm the procedure on site. If the ticket is essential to your trip, the safest strategy is to follow the official portal and buy in advance.
When to buy
Demand increases during the Andes dry season (May to September) and high-demand Machu Picchu periods cited in the PeruCheap guide as June to October, holidays, Inti Raymi week (approximately June 20–26), Fiestas Patrias in late July, and Christmas/New Year.
The recommendation is to buy weeks to months in advance when your itinerary falls within these windows. Capacity is 5,600 per day on 1 Jan, 2–5 Apr, 19 Jun–2 Nov and 30–31 Dec, and 4,500 on other days (RM 285-2025-MC, checked Sep 2026). Same-day availability is on TuBoleto.
